I’m a first‑year student. Do I need to register for courses?
Yes. Newly enrolled first‑year students must select their courses and register via the e‑registration page during both the fall and spring semesters

When and how should I complete course registration?
Course registration, course addition/drop and course withdrawal are performed through the university’s interactive web page during the period announced at the beginning of each semester
Students are responsible for registering themselves. Each department assigns an academic advisor who monitors the student’s academic status; registration and any changes become official only after the advisor approves them
If a change is needed after registration (such as adding or dropping a course), the student must submit a petition to the department chair and obtain the approval of the advisor and the faculty board
Students who do not renew their registration cannot attend classes or take exams and lose their student rights for that semester
Students who have not paid tuition or fees cannot register; those who pay late must also pay a late fee

If I fail an elective course, do I have to retake it the following year?
No. A student may choose a different elective course in subsequent semesters instead of repeating the same elective course

What is the attendance requirement for a course?
Students must attend at least 70 % of the class hours for theoretical courses and 80 % of laboratory or practical sessions. Students who do not meet these attendance requirements cannot take the final exam and receive an NA (no attendance) grade; they must re‑enrol in the course and meet the attendance requirements again

Under what circumstances am I considered unsuccessful?
A student whose semester GPA is below 2.00 is placed on academic probation; if the cumulative GPA remains below 2.00, the student is considered unsuccessful. Students must repeat all courses in which they receive grades of FF, FD or U; these grades indicate failure. Students whose GPA falls below 1.50 at the end of the first year repeat the class. Students with a cumulative GPA between 1.75–1.99 after the first year progress to the next class as conditional students

Can I retake a course to improve my grade?
Yes. Students may retake a course to raise their grade‑point average. When a course is retaken, the most recent grade is used in the calculation of the GPA

How does my numerical exam score correspond to a letter grade?
The faculty uses the following letter‑grade conversion:

Score Range Letter grade / Coefficient
95–100 AA – 4.00
90–94 BA – 3.75
85–89 BA – 3.50
80–84 BB – 3.25
75–79 CB – 3.00
70–74 CC – 2.75
65–69 DC – 2.50
60–64 DD – 2.25
50–59 FD – 1.75
49 and below FF – 0.00

Note: Students must also meet attendance requirements. Those who receive NA (no attendance) or U (unsuccessful in non‑credit courses) are considered unsuccessful and must retake the course.

What do the grades FF, FD and NA mean?
Grades FF and FD indicate that the student has failed the course; NA means the student failed due to insufficient attendance. A student who fails a required course must repeat that course. A failed elective may be replaced with another elective course in subsequent semesters. When a course is repeated, the most recent grade is taken into account in the GPA

Where can I obtain course descriptions?
Course outlines and descriptions are available on the university’s Bologna Information System under the Student tab. Students may also obtain printed copies from their department if required

How can I learn the course or exam schedule?
Course timetables and exam schedules are announced on the department’s notice boards and on the faculty website
How can I access the Gaziantep University undergraduate education and examination regulations?
The regulations are available on the university’s official website under the Student Affairs section

How can I access the academic calendar?
The academic calendar can be accessed through the university’s Student Affairs website

I missed my exam for a valid reason. What can I do?
Students who miss an exam due to a valid medical or personal reason may apply for a make‑up exam. Make‑up exams are not given for general re‑evaluation (bütünleme) exams. Students representing the university in academic, cultural or sports events may also receive permission to take make‑up exams

I want to freeze my registration (take a leave of absence). When and what should I do?
Students may request a leave of absence for reasons such as severe illness, natural disasters, economic hardship, serious illness or death of a first‑degree relative, military service, imprisonment or other compelling reasons. Applications must be submitted with a petition and supporting documents within the first 15 days of the semester. A leave of absence may be granted for up to two semesters and may not exceed half of the total program duration

How are the semester and cumulative GPAs calculated?
The GPA is calculated by multiplying the credit value of each course by the grade coefficient, summing these values and dividing by the total credits taken. In the cumulative GPA, only the most recent grade for a repeated course is included; previous grades are disregarded

What are double major and minor programs?
A double major program allows students who meet certain academic criteria to pursue courses in another undergraduate program concurrently and receive a second diploma. A minor program is a limited number of courses from another program leading to a certificate rather than a second degree

What cumulative GPA is required for graduation?
To graduate, students must complete all program requirements and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00
What GPA is needed to receive an Honor or High Honor certificate?
Students with a semester GPA between 3.00–3.49 receive an Honor Certificate, while those with a GPA of 3.50 or higher receive a High Honor Certificate

What is a student exchange program?
Exchange programs allow students to study at another higher education institution in Turkey or abroad for one or two semesters. First‑semester students cannot participate in exchange programs. Grades obtained through exchange are converted to the university’s grading scale upon return

Can evening‑education students receive scholarships or loans?
Yes. Students enrolled in evening (second) education may apply for scholarships or loans from the Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) and may be deemed eligible after evaluation

Under what circumstances is a scholarship terminated?
Scholarships are discontinued if the student fails courses; withdraws from the program; takes leave of absence; is expelled temporarily or permanently; leaves university housing voluntarily or due to disciplinary action; or is convicted of an offence

Under what circumstances is a loan terminated?
Loans are discontinued if the student leaves the program voluntarily or due to disciplinary measures; takes leave of absence; is unable to attend due to serious illness; leaves the dormitory; begins paid employment; or is convicted of an offence
